The Edit Rule started with a fairly ordinary problem. A wardrobe that was full, a morning that was short, and nothing in between that worked.

The answer turned out not to be more clothes. It was fewer clothes that agreed with each other. A trench that goes over everything. A blazer that makes jeans look deliberate. A white shirt that holds its shape after the fourth wash. Once those pieces are in place, getting dressed stops being a decision and starts being a habit.

That is what this site is for. Every edit here is built around the same question: does this piece earn its place, and does it work in at least three directions?

Fewer pieces. More outfits.

Why London

We are based in London, which is a useful place to think about clothes. It is one of the few cities where the fashion week schedule and the 8am commute happen on the same pavement, and where the weather makes a good coat a genuine investment rather than a styling choice.

It also means the edits here are grounded in what is actually available and wearable in the UK. Real high street sizing, real UK prices, real British weather. Not a wardrobe built for a climate nobody here lives in.

How we work

01 Fewer, better

Every piece has to work at least three ways. If it only does one job, it does not make the edit.

02 Price honest

High street sits next to premium. Something being expensive is not the same as it being worth it.

03 Logic, not rules

We explain why an outfit works, so the thinking carries over to the clothes you already own.

A note on faces

You will not find a face on this site, and that is deliberate. The Edit Rule is about the clothes and the reasoning behind them, not about anybody’s personal style being copied wholesale. The pieces should work on you, in your job, in your life. What suits the person writing this is beside the point.

Pieces are included because they are worth including, and we say so plainly at the top of every article that contains one.
